Diablo III: I, Um, What?

So there's this thing going around about how there's supposedly a bug that prevents items of the proper level from dropping when your level is somewhere in the mid-60s.

Turns out that's not a bug, it's a feature.

So I have to ask: did Blizzard learn nothing from the Auction House?

The entire point of these games is to get the bestest loot! I feel like I'm accomplishing more when I replace my old loot every hour or so; that's why I praised Loot 2.0 to the high heavens. (Me being me, when I say "praised to the high heavens" what I actually mean is "did not instantly condemn to the burning hells.")

Anyway here's what the geniuses at Blizzard have to say:
A primary boon of this approach is you know that items you find early on in your leveling experience (around 61-62) aren't replaced immediately upon reaching 63. That awesome item you found at 61 should be able to stick with you up through 69. When there are too many tiers of items, you transition through them rapidly and the items start to feel transient. Why bother gemming or enchanting an item if you expect to find an upgrade in 30 minutes?
"Why bother gemming an item..."

Look, so long as salvaging a) is free and b) does not cost us the gem in the salvaged equipment, any question that begins "why bother gemming an item" is utterly pointless.  Unless you both don't have a spare gem of that type and can't do advanced math in order to calculate what a +50 Dex boost will do to your DPS.

You know what you could do instead, Blizz? More items with the "Level requirement reduced by X" affix. I found a level 61 crossbow I get to give to my friend's level 48 Demon Hunter because of the massive level requirement reduction affixed to it.  (Come to think of it, it looks an awful lot like Loot 2.0 got hosed in RoS, because of the massive number of crossbows my Barbarian has picked up in Act V and Adventure Mode... and also, for that matter, said DH friend was picking up plans for a legendary staff and a legendary mojo - neither of which the DH can use - the night RoS launched. Blizzplz.)

Anyway, instead of pretending that a Level 68 item is a Level 62 item, why don't you actually tell us in the game that we got these items earlier than we should have?  Then I might actually believe you when you say it's not a bug.

Bonus: House Stark shield. Yay cashing in on a popular franchise (at least back when Dragon Age Origins was launched, the TV show hadn't started yet)

Post-Craig Review: Dr. No

Back to the very beginning. This is a lie. "The beginning" would surely be a review of Ian Fleming's 1953 novel Casino Royale...
