*okay given my musical pallet, "throwback" may be the wrong word. But this is pre-Bruce Iron Maiden, which makes it pretty old for that band.

Happy Hunger Games Finals Week everyone

This is probably my favorite AC/DC song in terms of the way it's composed. Almost the entire song is in B except for the solo that starts at about 2:47. But the transition from B to A for the solo is so subtle you're likely to miss it. You don't miss the transition from A to B at the end of the solo (3:18), though, so it feels like suddenly the singer is singing in a higher key than he was before.

Also, the chords in the outro are blatantly ripped off from Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb."

So it's been about two years since we lost Gary Moore. This feels appropriate.

Moore was a temporary member of Thin Lizzy while they were looking for a permanent second guitarist at the time they recorded this song. He did the solo, then the new guy came in. New guy refused to re-record a note of the solo.

I've been really, really bad at posting weekend songs these last... two? weekends.  And anyway, to celebrate my latest obsession, as well as my defection to House-Our-First-Major-Contribution-to-the-Story-is-to-Push-a-Seven-Year-Old-Out-a-Window, here's a weekend song in the middle of the week.

Why am I rooting for the Lannisters now? Because I'll take evil over stupid any day. (That said, Arya Stark is still 10 pounds of awesome in a 5-pound bag.)

Whenever somebody mentions the song "Phantom of the Opera," I always pretend they're talking about the relatively obscure Iron Maiden song. When they say "the Andrew Lloyd Webber" song, I say, "Oh, you mean 'Echoes' by Pink Floyd?"

By the way, the Iron Maiden song is freaking awesome.
