Babylon 5 4x09 "Atonement"

The One That Makes Delenn Flirting With Sinclair In Season One Super Awkward

Delenn's clan isn't pleased with her marrying Sheridan so they call her back for a ritual called the Dreaming. It involves drinking from an overdesigned chalice and then, apparently, reliving memories. Delenn relives memories of Dukhat - no, not the DS9 villain, who this very week is off joining the Dominion and being installed as their puppet ruler of Cardassia - Delenn's mentor, who was killed at the outset of the Earth-Minbari war. We learn that Delenn was the deciding vote for the war - see the Season One episode "The War Prayer" where Delenn admits that she "sometimes" regrets the decisions that brought her to B5. Then we learn that Delenn is a descendant of Valen, but her clan don't particularly want everyone to know that, so they suddenly remember that there's this other workaround. How convenient.

The revelations that Delenn a) started the war and b) is a descendant of Valen both probably should mean something. And in a perfect world, where the Minbari Civil War arc wasn't absurdly curtailed, maybe they would have. But in this world, they don't. So, as entertaining a guest character as Dukhat is, the episode is, sadly, skippable.

Post-Craig Review: Dr. No

Back to the very beginning. This is a lie. "The beginning" would surely be a review of Ian Fleming's 1953 novel Casino Royale...
